    Communications

Communication of problems or concerns by players, parents, or coaches should be handled in a manner consistent with the intent of the program and the SCNM.  If a player or parent has a concern, he or she should first go to the coach or team manager.  If the concern is not resolved, please bring it to the attention of the Division Coordinator or Club President.

    Team Parent Responsibilities

    1.  Set up a schedule for refreshment responsibilities for each game.

    • Use roster and game schedule

    • Assign each player a game to be responsible for half-time snacks (oranges) and drinks/snacks for the end of the game.

    • If the assigned player/parent cannot bring refreshments on the day he or she is scheduled, he or she must contact another player/parent and switch dates with him or her.

    • Team parents should call players prior to the game he or she is scheduled to bring refreshments as a reminder.

    2.  Develop a “phone tree” to contact players and parents when a change of schedule occurs.

    • The Team Parent should find one or two other parents to assist in making these phone calls.

    • The “phone tree” can also be used to remind players/parents of refreshment responsibilities, canceled practices/games, and rescheduled practices/games.

    3.  Organize an optional early season “get-together” for the players and their families.

    • The Team Parent is responsible for setting up the event, not providing supplies.

    • Try to get as many parents involved as possible.

    4.  Help pass out and collect SCNM communications.

    • Alert parents to SCNM sponsored events such as fundraisers, clinics, registration, etc.

    • Provide SCNM Communications Director with e-mail listing of all players to optimize communication between The Club and its members.

    Scholarships

Scholarships for the program are available through the SCNM based on financial need.  Contact the Club President for more information.

    Fee Reimbursement

From time to time there may be reasons that an individual may need to withdraw from the team. Registration fees will be reimbursed until team commitments are submitted to the District, at which time funds are committed on behalf of the players.  Team commitments are submitted the first Saturday in August for the fall season and the last Saturday in February for the spring season.  Once team commitments are submitted, no part of the registration fee will be refunded.  Refund requests must be submitted through the respective Division Coordinator or the Club President.

    Late Registration

The SCNM will make every attempt to roster players who register during the registration period.   Late registrations will be charged a late fee and will only be accepted and assigned to teams that have vacancies after on-time registrants have been placed.  Northwest District By-Laws governing league rules dictate maximum number of players per team as follows: U9 and U10 Division I and II have a maximum roster size of 15 players, U11 and older Division II have a maximum roster size of 22 players and U11 and older Division I have a maximum roster size of 25 players.

Note: A total of 3 trips ONLY will be made by our registrar to the District Registrar (DR).  The schedule of these trips is as follows:

Trip #1: The Monday PRIOR to rosters being due to the DR (this is 2 weeks after the team commitments are due, which is the 1st Saturday in March or 1st Saturday in August)

Trip #2: The Friday 1 week PRIOR to the start of the season (the start of the season - 1st weekend in April for Spring & 1st weekend in September for Fall).

Trip #3: The Friday BEFORE the 2nd weekend of the season.  This means any player/coach/assistant coach that has to be changed will miss the first 2 weeks of games.

    Age Group Determination

The Soccer Club of New Milford is a member of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) and the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA).  As such, we operate under the rules of those organizations.  For CJSA inter-club competition in leagues and tournaments, players are divided into age groups according to his or her age as of August 1st of each year.   For example, if on August 1 (or prior) the player is 9 years old, then that player will be an Under 10 player (U10).  If age 10 on August 1, then a U11 player and so on.  Following CJSA By-Laws, under no circumstance will a player be allowed to play with a younger age group.  The SCNM will make every effort to allow players to play within his or her grade so long as this does not result in the player playing in a younger age group.

Players Playing Up an Age Group

As a general rule, all Division I players will be placed on a team for which he or she is age appropriate and grade appropriate where possible.

Division II players will be placed in his or her appropriate age group, with the following exceptions: 1) From time to time the District will not have sufficient teams within an age group for an effective schedule. When this happens the team will play up an age group.   2) Occasionally the SCNM will have to balance numbers between age groups due to roster size limitations. In these situations players may be asked to play up, based on his or her coach’s evaluation and recommendation and/or age.  See “A Word about Player Numbers” below.

    A Word About Player Numbers

One of the more difficult tasks each season is to balance teams based upon the number of players registering.  Our preference is to provide annual team continuity whenever possible.  However, this is sometimes not possible or practical.  Soccer has become a year-round sport.  Nevertheless, our numbers generally are higher in the fall than in the spring, when there are more outdoor sports such as baseball and lacrosse available for participation.  When wrestling with number issues, our primary goal is to provide an opportunity for everyone to play.

    Equipment - Player Standards

Players are required to wear soccer type cleats.  Football or baseball cleats are not acceptable.  Each player must wear a pair of shin guards and keep them on to participate in both games and practices.  For safety reasons, players are not allowed to wear jewelry during practice or games. This includes earrings/cuffs, necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, etc…

    Coaches Qualifications/Licenses

SCNM Parent Coaches are volunteers. To facilitate their learning and knowledge of the game, the SCNM provides a number of different training and development opportunities for the coaches.  Through the club, we sponsor a minimum of one coach’s clinic each season.  Additionally, through the District and State Associations, there are minimum training recommendations for travel teams U9 and older.  Coaches training, referred to as coaches modules, are offered by The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA).  The SCNM reimburses coaches for his or her training fees for these programs to insure that the cost does not deter qualified people from investing his or her time into these efforts.
