The Metrostars boys put a noble effort in their exit from the State Cup
tournament. Facing a much stronger opponent in Old Greenwich, our boys
struggled to gain and retain possession for most of the game. This was a
perfect match for our boys to taste what a Premier program such as Beachside
can bring to the table. The effort from our boys was there from the first
touch until the final whistle, however, we lacked critical possession in the
midfield and struggled mighty to create quality pportunities. Andonis
Vassiliadis had a superb game in goalkeeping. Niko Stefanatos was brilliant
in the stopper position, and our back, as always, was solid.
At half-time the score was 0 X 2 with both goals coming from set plays. In
the second half we had two quality opportunities but it was just not going
to be our day. Old Greenwich was able to put the game out of reach with 10
minutes left in the game by scoring 2 quick goals in transition. Final score
Old Greenwich 4 X New Milford 0.
Several congratulatory remarks from the opponent coach provided our boys
with the assurance that their effort was brilliant and that they should feel
very proud of their accomplishments in the CT Cup this year.
