GoalKeeper
Ellen Trautwein, Lauren Ellis, Megan Tishion and Eliana Berney all shared
the gloved position during the cold and wet Saturday morning game. The
netminders combined for over 20 saves during the quickpaced match. Megan was
yet again brillian in the goal, while Lauren Ellis cofidence continues to
improve. Ellent Trautwein, who first tested the players on the field, donned
the goalie jersey knowing Shepaug could make powerful shots. Eliana Berney,
a newcomer to the net, made some daring saves. Each of the netminders took
some new risks while in the net knowning they are skilled players on field
as well as goalies
Offense
Galaxy demonstrated superior skill throughout the match. Confident and
strong in the first half, Lauren Ellis made a solo run from the mid-field to
just inside Shepaug's goal box to net the ball with a solid shot to the
upper right side at 8:30 in the first half. Ellen Trautwein scored on a
pentaly kick in the second half, ricocheting her well-placed shot off both
goal posts before the ball entered the net. Kimberly Sandberg moved forward
from mid-field to take on a striker position; playing her best game ever.
Megan Tishion also put forth a great offensive effort as she pushed forward
into shot-taking territory during the first half. Dani Gosseline is
developing her confidence in the offensive positions. The midfielders,
although strong through out the game, found it hard to compete with their
disorganized opponents. Kailyn Schuster, Lauren Ellis and Ellen Trautwein
provided much of the mid-field support throughout the game.
Defense
Kira Page demonstrated a new confidence through the Shepaug game. Kira faced
her opponents and foiled their attacks repeatedly. She also kept her game
hat on as she demonstrated complete understanding of the game and positions.
Kira slid forward into midfield and then shortly after took the stiker
position while her mates shifted to cover her vacancies. MacKenzie Morehouse
continues to develop confidence in both defense and mid-field. She putting
on the speed to take on her opponents.
Comments
Galaxy's gals played their best game of the season. They demonstrated a
strong understanding of the game as they communicated position changes and
support needs beyond their experience. Galaxy's skill and style could not
control the swarm of Shepaug's speedy strong players. With continued work,
their abilities will overtake opponents like Shepaug with easy.
