Comments
Despite having no substitutes, the "Fire" played hard after a flat start in
which a nice Southbury team scored 2 quick goals in 5 minutes. After that,
the girls emerged and began to play hard. Rachel Weir really had an
outstanding game taking players off the dribble, and she took two hard shots
that the goalie saved, and she smashed another shot that glanced off the
post. She also assisted Helen Bayers on a goal, a perfect example of simple
combination play that led to a good result. Hayley Kozar had a fine all
around game, both in goal and on the field, in which she distributed the
ball to her fellow teammates nicely. Lizzie Olmsted was also superb in goal.
Sarah Coshal was solid at left back, working hard to run down Southbury
players and making productive passes from the back. The girls have clearly
grown since last season, and will continue to grow this spring.
