Offense
Not much in the way of sustained offense for the N.M. boys, who seemed to
struggle to link up passes from midfield through to the front attacking
line. Positive efforts and contributions came from: Nate Tower, who had some
deft runs into the Torrington box; Mike McLachlan with some smart,
well-placed passes; Connor Knight with some hustle and quickness; and one
near-miss/almost goal just over the far right corner of the net by Steve
Cronin.
Defense
Defensively, the back-line held their own. Particularly fine games were
had by Zack Disorbo, who tirelessly turned back the Torrington attack; and
Matt Coshal, who made a spectacular play by taking the ball clean off the
feet of an open, streaking attacker. Coach Tower thought the overall
defensive effort was quite strong and that the 4-0 final wasn't entirely
reflective of the N.M. boys team effort. Coach Tower also commended Steve
Cronin for an "MVP" like performance in goal.
Comments
Both sides had solid defensive efforts with the offenses struggling
through much of the game. A 0-0 halftime score was reflective of the
"D's" play. After Torrington went up 2-0 about midway through the
2nd half, the back-breaker came: Torrington was awarded a PK. Despite a
valiant effort by goalie Steve Cronin, the low, hard shot just pushed past
Steve's fingertips and into the back of the net and gave the Torrington side
a 3-0 lead. A two-week layoff due to a rained out game last week didn't help
the N.M. boys who lacked their usual crispness and attacking flair.
