Offense
Mike McLachlan had an "all-everything" game with razor sharp
passing and constant hustle. Mike's wonderful cross to Connor Knight was a
highlight. Nate Tower had arguably his best game of the season, snaking
through the Shepaug defense and providing much-needed spark in the attack.
Ditto for Sean Sedore who worked tirelessly to challenge and win balls
anywhere near him. Alex Immohr also added to the mix with some nice through
balls.
Defense
Sure-handed, heady, strong keeper play by Mike Piper and Steven Cronin
kept the N.M. side in the game, with the quick Mike Piper smothering two
near-scores. Alex Immohr and Matt Coshal plugged the necessary holes to keep
the game within reach and sent some through balls past Shepaug's midfield to
launch counter-attacks.
Comments
After playing to a 0-0 tie in the first, an uncharacteristically shaky
start early in the 2nd half by the N.M. defensive back line spotted the
Shepaug side to a 1-0 lead. Shepaug went up 2-0 off an "in box"
penalty+resultant PK. But the feisty N.M. boys launched an all-out attack
over the last 20 minutes to pull to 2-1 on a score by dangerous Connor
Knight off a well-touched cross by Mike McLachlan. With only seconds left,
another penalty PK was awarded and Steven Cronin coolly notched the game
evener, garnering his fifth goal of the season.
